Elizabeth Schmidt is President of Rules of the Road for Nonprofits, which educates nonprofit organizations about ways to use the law to further their missions. She is a Senior Research Fellow at UMass Amherst, specializing in nonprofits, social enterprises, and solutions-based policy analysis.
She has taught at several colleges and universities, practiced law, and worked directly for nonprofit organizations in legal and management capacities. She has written about nonprofit governance, accountability, policies, and ethics, as well as the legal framework for social enterprises. Her most recent books are Rules of the Road for Nonprofit Leaders: Using the Law to Support Your Mission (Georgetown University Press 2025), and Nonprofit Law: The Life Cycle of a Public Charity, 4th ed. (Aspen Publishing 2025).

Su Phyo Win is a Research Associate with Rules of the Road for Nonprofit Leaders. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She brings over eight years of experience working with international NGOs and media organizations in Myanmar.
